Mustafizur Rahman, MD, Duncan Brothers
At Duncan Brothers, all our made tea is sold through auction. The auction house is located in the country’s port city, Chattogram, where we operate our own warehouse facility; Chittagong Warehouses Ltd (CWL).
It is essential that our tea is transported to the warehouse immediately after production. This ensures an optimum volume and mix of tea is available for auction; allows brokers to draw samples in a timely manner for valuation; frees up space in our garden factory sorting rooms for proper sorting and bulking; and significantly reduces the challenges associated with transport and road conditions.
CWL was established in January 1950 with 66,000 square feet of warehousing space. In 2002, the facility expanded by an additional 14,500 square feet, bringing total capacity to 80,500 square feet.
With tea production rising in recent years, it became clear that further expansion was necessary. Therefore, Duncan Brothers invested in the construction of a second unit of 14,000 square feet, which was successfully completed in 2025. This expansion has made CWL one of the largest tea warehouses in the country, with a total storage capacity of 94,500 square feet.
Previously, tea trucks could wait up to a week to unload. Today, that wait has been reduced to just a few hours. The expansion has also created new business opportunities, as we now store teas from external gardens, generating additional revenue.
