Kakuzi operations
Kakuzi is a dual listed entity on the Nairobi and London stock exchanges. It is a large and highly diverse agricultural operation producing avocado, macadamia, forestry, beef and blueberries. Camellia is a 50.7% shareholder.
Kakuzi is committed to building a sustainable agricultural portfolio that addresses the challenges of a changing climate. Their development plans are well underway, with extensive new plantings of avocado and macadamia already in progress. Meanwhile, the blueberry initiative launched in 2018 continues to thrive, with early harvests now being successfully sold in the local market.
Strategic growth & development
In recent years, Kakuzi has made strides in local agribusiness by launching the Boran Barn, a BBQ outlet which sells Kakuzi’s own beef, and has become a popular destination alongside continuing community initiatives such as the avocado smallholder programme. Building on this success, their strategic growth plan includes upgrading the macadamia processing facility to handle increasing yields, adopting agri-tech such as drones and sensors to improve efficiency, and expanding the blueberry production following a successful trial. These initiatives, amongst others, will work simultaneously to scale operations and diversify Kakuzi’s portfolio.
Kakuzi dams & water catchment
Kakuzi irrigates its farms using 19 dams that store 13 million m³ of water, roughly 5,200 Olympic pools. Around half may evaporate, but the rest sustains irrigation across the estate. The dams refill each rainy season, keeping Kakuzi self‑reliant and reducing pressure on shared water sources.
