Makuyu, Free Medical Camp

On 25th November Kakuzi held a free medical camp to bring medical care and health information to the community of Makuyu.

Kakuzi looks forward to making this event part of its culture of promoting sustainable communities not merely within their own premises but also to the surrounding community in the County. Kakuzi is hopeful that this culture will grow and spread throughout the various industrial players in the county.

The medical camp provided a number of services:

1.       Voluntary counselling and testing – VCT services

2.      Both preventive and curative treatment for common conditions

3.      Referrals for cases that required specialized treatment to the relevant centers

4.      Awareness and counseling on HIV/AIDS, diabetes, breast cancer and other ailments

5.      Awareness of the need for personal hygiene in prevention of disabling diseases such as eye and dental and

6.      Nutritional counseling based on food products available in the community and discouraging drug/substance abuse among the community members.

The medical camp provided an opportunity for both medical and non-medical personnel from Kakuzi and partners to give back to the community by way of volunteering their time, energy and expertise. Over seventeen men and women set aside their personal engagements and spent the whole day serving the needy, and it is because of the input of everybody who came out to help that the medical camp was a success.

The effect this activity has on the social fabric of the community and well-being of the individuals and families is irrefutably very high. Beneficiaries of this free medical camp were not limited to Kakuzi employees, a large number of community members from the surrounding villages benefited from the event.
