Eastern Produce Kenya, Field Days for Farmers

Farmers’ Field Day is an EPK initiative bringing farmers together once every 2 years. In 2016, it was held on 22nd April under the theme Sustainable Tea Farming and Diversification for Economic Empowerment, 855 farmers attended the event. The guest of honor during the day was CEC of Agriculture, Nandi County, assisted by the Sub-County Commissioner.

EPK had 15 stands, manned by seasoned managers who spent the day training farmers on tea husbandry and other important tea management topics.  18 other exhibitors attended the field day, invited to offer farmers training to complement EPKs’ services.

The exhibitors included banks, SACCOs, Insurance companies, Ministry of Agriculture, OEP, Feil, and mobile phone companies. Benefits reported by the farmers following the field day included better yields, improved quality and food security and knowledge of environmental conservation.
