Abbey Metal Finishing, Sustainable Lighting

AMFin moved into their new Hinckley site in 2010 and by late 2011 it was fully operational with capacity to spare. As part of a 12-month project to improve energy efficiency Amfin assessed the lighting in older parts of the factory which were not updated during the initial installation.

AMFin found that there were 22 Metal Halide low bay 250-watt light fittings in total. With the support of an external lighting specialist they discovered that they could reduce energy usage and make a considerable annual saving if these were changed to a Twin LED 32 watt fluorescent style light fitting instead – giving them an average 200 LUX at floor level.

With initial layout cost of the new LED lighting system, which would have a payback period of just over 3 years, AMFin are set to save money each year and most importantly reduce their annual carbon footprint
