2. Macadamia Nuts

Macadamia nuts & workers

Macadamia nut production in Africa is a long-standing Eastern Produce investment with the first orchards being planted in Malawi, followed by South Africa and more recently there have been further
plantings in Kenya.

Eastern Produce Malawi is the largest grower, cracker and exporter of macadamia nuts in the country sold under the "Maclands" brand name. The nuts are the Integrafolio variety with an excellent creamy taste. Orchard pests are controlled as much as possible by biological means. All nut in shell processing is done in our own processing plant which is HACCP and ISO 22000 certified. With full control of the process from orchard management through to shelling, packing and storage in temperature controlled conditions, Eastern Produce Malawi is able to provide our customers with full product traceability.

Eastern Produce is also the largest grower, cracker, exporter of macadamia nuts in South Africa again sold under the "Maclands" brand. With two estates in Limpopo Province and Mpumalanga District, near Louis Trichardt, both are relatively young plantations, established in the mid-nineties and are now reaching maturity. All processing is done at the Zetmac plant situated in Limpopo province, a co-operative factory owned by various macadamia producers, with Eastern Produce the majority shareholder. The plant is HACCP and ISO 22000 certified. The estates are planted with the Integrefolia and Beaumont macadamia varieties, both recognised for their excellent quality.

At Kakuzi in Kenya 950 hectares are currently being planted with Macadamia trees with the first nuts harvested in 2010.

All Eastern Produce macadamia output is produced to international grade standards and we are therefore able to meet most customer requirements.
